Longer Wait for Fibre Broadband
BT announced that their investment in fibre optic broadband would connect ten million homes by 2012, but industry experts do not agree with these figures, as they believe it is going to take a lot longer to complete the massive task.
In fact Point Topic say that only four and half million homes will be connected to the high speed broadband network by 2013. This is well off the estimate initially given by BT and is going to disappoint many households who were expecting to be connected earlier.
After all BT have not even managed to trial the equipment yet. This is more than likely going to finalised by the middle of next year, with the roll out starting when they are satisfied that their work is going to come good.
“It’ll probably take a bit longer than that. We estimate that there will be over 4.4 million fibre lines by the end of 2013,” said Tim Johnson, chief analyst at Point Topic.
The connection speeds received in the home or business premises will depend on the technology used. Fibre to the home (FTTH) is the fastest because the fibre goes directly the building, whereas the cheaper fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) is slower but easier and faster to finish.
