UK to Become a Broadband Leader if BT has its Way
According to reports, BT has announced that it plans to rollout more than twice the number of FTTP services by 2012 than it had earlier revealed. This means that 2.5 million homes will now have access to FTTP technology, which offers a download speed that reaches up to 100Mb and can also go up to 1Gb if the need arises.

According to Steve Robertson, CEO of Openreach, the service providers were the first to demand more FTTP service networks, and that is why the number was increased. Robertson also said that this new announcement goes to show that BT is resolved to give its customers the best broadband speeds available anywhere in the world.
In order to upgrade its broadband network, BT is spending almost £1.5 billion, and this includes the enhancement of its copper networks so that it can provide speeds up to 24Mb.
