Introducing the Peak District and Surrounding Area
Placed handily between Manchester and Sheffield, the Peak District is an idyllic escape from the pressure of city life. If you come from Manchester or Sheffield, it’s accessible within an hour going by train or car and a great pick for a one or two day break, or even longer. If you’re travelling from further afield, we recommend you stay 4 or 5 days since there’s a lot to see and do in the Peak area.
A lot of people relate the Peak District with the summertime, but it’s glorious the entire year, and nowhere is the season’s change more accentuated than in the Peak area.
As remarked previously, there is much one can do in the Peak area. The lovely scenes tempt people out of their hotels and onto long walks, and there’s much of trails to ramble on - as many as thirty popular routes.
To add to that, there’s also lots of places to try your luck at fishing in the Peak District, in particular the Ladybower reservoir. Even if you’re not into physical activities, try Buxton for something to eat in one of their many pubs, and a walk in the pavilion gardens, or even the opera (yes, Buxton has its own Opera house). Lastly the Castleton and Hathersage in the Hope Valley which are stunning and well worth the visit.
How can one find a place to stay in the Peak area? We advocate hiring a holiday cottage in the Peak District.
