Back to school can be a tricky time for lots of reasons, especially if you have changed over the summer. You and your friends may look different in the fall than you did when you left school in May. You may be darker from spending time outside or have braids from your trip to the beach, you may be stronger from your summer job or wilderness camp, you may have a new hair cut or new clothes. If you had a growth spurt over the summer, you may be a different size or shape.

It can be stressful to wonder what others will think of your new look, especially if you are already self-conscious or you hang with a group that tends to judge people’s looks. Hopefully your friends are your friends because you like each other, have fun together, support each other, and feel good about yourself when you’re with them. Even if you haven’t changed at all, or you feel like the only one who is worried about what others will think of your new look, the truth is, everyone wants to be liked and accepted.

When you see your friends for the first time after the summer, maybe you could say things like, “I am SO glad to see you!” and give them a hug or a high-five, instead of saying how good they look. Grown-ups comment on each other’s looks (especially weight) all the time, but it’s not a very grown-up thing to do. When we say “You look so good!” to someone, we usually mean that we’re so glad to see them, but we are in a bad habit of not saying what we mean. Even though “You look so good!” is a compliment, it’s a negative if we are only focusing on someone’s appearance over all their other qualities. The problem is that it’s the easiest thing to focus on at first glance, and sometimes we fall back on appearance comments when we don’t have anything else to say.

If one of your friends says, “Did you see so-and-so? Did you see how she looks?” or “What happened to her over the summer?” you could say, “I feel self-conscious about looking different this year, let’s not talk about how people look right now,” “I’m trying not to gossip this year,” or something like that. It may be easier to just say, “I like the way that looks” or “Yeah, but she’s brave for dying her hair blue” or some other comment that turns a negative into a positive.

If you are the person making those mean comments, remember they don’t just affect the person you’re talking about - in fact that person may not ever know. But comments about others will make your friends think you’re judging them, too, and although they may joke about it in front of you, they probably feel self-conscious inside and maybe even scared that you are going to talk about them when they’re not around. In the end, negative comments about other people can make you feel cool at first, but they usually make you and the people around you feel worse later.

Usually we think that the person who bad-mouths others thinks they’re so much better than everyone, but usually it’s the exact opposite. The person judging feels so insecure that they have to point out other people’s flaws so no one will notice theirs. You never know what is going on inside someone else. No matter how together or cool someone looks on the outside, it may not match their feelings. A person who really feels good inside doesn’t have to cut other people down to feel better.

The saying “Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me,” is so untrue. If you’ve ever found out that people have been talking about you behind your back, or if you’ve ever been teased right to your face, you know that words can hurt a lot. Even small comments. I know changing is hard, and feeling different is hard, too. Even grown-ups have a hard time pointing out to our friends that what they are doing hurts. But when we are feeling grown-up, we do, because judging people on their looks hurts all of us, and it’s worth it to make the change.

Webster’s Dictionary defines goal \.2 as the end toward which effort is directed.

Do you have goal(s) in your life? Have you reduced your goal(s) to writing? Studies have been done by respected universities which

indicate 90% of us never set goals; of the 10% who do, only 3% actually write them down. This latter group consists of some the most successful people in all fields of endeavor.

Goal Setting requires first of all specificity. In other words “to be a success” is not a valid goal. Rather goals should sound like this: “By 2010,

I will have my own Carvel Franchise in Brooklyn’s Bensonhurst Section” or perhaps: “By next year this time I will have completed my first novel and submitted the manuscript to 10 publishers.”

Goals need proper maintenance, small adjustments that build on the main goal.

Immediately and audaciously begin to take action. Refine your goal(s) more and more. Post visual images of your goal in prominent locations, like your bathroom mirror, your pillow, refrigerator, your work area, your car, your brief case, and any where else you might regularly eye it.

Write down the benefits of achieving your goal: I will be happier, healthier, wealthier, etc. when I achieve ‘your particular goal.’ Act as if you have achieved your goal and are just filling in the details of how you got there. Keep a smile on your face. Reward yourself for each positive step you take, and don’t beat your self up over miscues/minor failures. They are a part of the ‘rungs of the ladder’ that lead you to the top.

Consider every obstacle you might encounter, along the way. Develop strategies for handling each circumstance. Common obstacles you are likely to confront are naysayers, lack of capital, small failures, digressions, competition, poor time management, etc. Know beforehand how you will overcome any obstacle that comes your way.

Gain as much knowledge as you can about your goal. If your goal is to be an Indy Car Driver, learn every detail about the car, the track and the competition. If your goal is to be a sports agent learn every detail about your competitors (fees they charge, who their clients are, what their shtick is, where they hang out, when and how they approach clients).

Develop support groups/mentors, who can provide you honest advice and counsel, help you overcome obstacles and keep you motivated.

Construct a plan of action, and meticulously work the plan. A popular adage says: “People don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan.” One common error is, mistaking activity for accomplishment.

Be committed. To paraphrase W. H. Macy, don’t be committed like a kamikaze pilot on his 12th mission.

Seek and seize opportunity. The mass of men call this luck; they believe success is serendipitous. As Zig Ziglar says: “Arise each morning when the ‘opportunity clock’ sounds” and greet God boldly with the words: “Lord we are going to have a great day.” Who could be a better partner than the Lord?

Remember you have the same number of hours in a day as any doctor, lawyer, entrepreneur, or for that matter, your average billionaire like Bill Gates. Use those hours wisely, “Age quod agis” - “do what you are doing,” always remaining focused. Understand you aren’t making sacrifices by giving up some habits and activities you enjoy, but rather that you are now investing your time and talent in yourself instead.

Don’t sit around waiting for things to happen. Make them happen. Ed McMahon isn’t going to knock on your door. If you want to succeed you must proceed without hesitation. Until you are truly committed and begin the journey to success, there is a good chance you may draw back. Don’t! Move forward and “seize the day.”

Just a time ago it seemed like fast notebooks were only being built by a few niche brands and were built to spec, not mass produced. As I recall they were never the best selling laptop computers but being more significantly expensive they were the greatest revenue generating systems. Everyone desired this type of notebook computer, but it was too pricey. Plainly being so advanced they were the best laptops in terms of performance. Despite the buzz created I doubt they were amazing sellers because I don’t think purchasers would buy laptops instead of desktop computers as they were so costly. Things appear as it they are set to shift though because now the gaming laptops market has caught the eye of larger manufacturers.

Competitive pricing strategies are not usual is this sector so international brands could be making tons of markup. With laptops becoming like consumer electronics this is a great profit stream for them. With their large marketing resources I am certain they can sway anybody to buy laptops like these. Littler companies certainly have an uphill battle now. The high end technology will quickly forge its way into the eyes of the normal consumers. Purchasers will also gather tons more peace of mind when spending a lot of money.

The laptop computers being introduced by branded companies are all vieing for the best laptop computer title. This is really the main competitive selling point that remains for the littler retailers. Configuring the spec is something all us enthusiasts like. Typically this kind of buyer is well versed in the technology and can effortlessly compare configurations. For consumers of this type, the speed can be of greater significance than how good it looks. All customers concur that its a good position. It will force prices to slip and make premium technology cheaper for the market. I say that with a large dose of doubt however. New notebook launches should uphold premium prices. Larger manufacturers have associated themselves with the gaming laptops niche and only time will tell what the outcome is.

http://www.rizeon.com appear to be selling their gaming laptops at low prices to compete in a saturation market.

When Panasonic originally began assembling a brand new leading array of televisions somewhere around the year 2000, their goals were: Pick-up a bargain today with Sound and Vision’s Panasonic 26 inch LCD Television!

(+) To deliver video performance so genuinely, in order that television audiences would believe that they are not purely seeing but in reality taking part in the action.

(+) To highlight the sense of “truly being there” by engrossing the TV viewers in high-quality sound.

(+) To develop the spectators experience by making a sleek, classy, yet entirely inconspicuous television that would not distract for more than a second from what’s happening on-screen.

(+) To make using the TV as straightforward as possible whilst furthermore taking full advantage of its networking capacity.

(+) To mirror this target, the new series of TVs was decided to be labelled VIERA: indicating a new VIsion ERA. The conclusion is the biggest selling & prize-winning VIERA series of Plasma and LCD TVs that are available these days, giving you the following enhancements:

Picture performance: Equipped with Panasonic’s proprietary V.Real II / V.Real Pro II equipment - the upshot of years of extensive research and advancement that has covered the extent of the TV chain from specialised TV cameras all the through to tellies in your living rooms - each and every VIERA offers visuals of amazing realism & beauty & puts you concretely at the hub of the film!

High-quality sound: Featuring up to date digital tuners and a few super-slim unobtrusive amps all housed in the shiny and thin body of the VIERA itself, V.Audio sound immerses you within the on-screen existence.

Glossy and yet unobtrusive design: From the telly to the cabinet stand, VIERA has lovely fluid lines that are nearly organic in form. This novel method has been the feature of VIERA televisions since their launch and gives the sense of roughly a “floating” screen - which doesn’t distract you from the on-screen action. Moreover, VIERA televisions have been planed from the ground up with the environmental surroundings carefully in mind & feature replenishable bamboo amps, lead free construction, and best practice manufacturing.

Bad Credit Rating limits consumers financially. You will find difficulties to secure loan or mortgage for purchasing car, home, or more. Sadly, nobody can remove bad marks on credit report or history unless the bad marks are inaccurate. Only time can heal the past.

The Credit Rating, also known as credit, is way to tell how good the consumer can repay the mortgage or loan. The consumers are often denied of mortgage and loan with bad credit rating. Or, the potential mortgage or loan lender asks for a bigger security deposits, and gives a higher interest rate.

Things to watch out

In these stressful times, you may want to watch out for Credit Repairer that offers “repair bad credit rating or improve poor bad credit rating”. In reality, the Credit Repairer has no power to remove accurate information on credit history.

Unless there is a material improvement, the consumer should never prepay for any credit repairing services. For example, the Credit Repairer finds bad marks on credit history. He also finds the bad marks leads to a different person. The Credit Repairer asks the Credit Bureau to fix the inaccurate information. Just to let you know. The bad marks stay in credit history file unless the bad marks are inaccurate.

To create a new credit identity and credit report are warning signs. Sometimes, the credit repairer suggests the use of Employee Identification Number instead of Social Security Number to create a new identity. New credit identity leads to prosecution if the new credit identity is use for frauds.

Simple Steps to repair bad credit rating

First, the consumer request a copy of credit report from a credit bureau. Each country has credit bureaus. For any inaccurate information, the consumer asks the credit bureau to fix the inaccurate information. Since credit bureaus shares the same pool of information, the consumer only needs to contact one of the credit bureaus.

Next, any outstanding debts must be repaid as soon as possible. The general rule is to pay off the debt with highest interest rate first. Any outstanding debts can be problematic to handle at times. A professional credit counselor offers helpful recommendations to manage any outstanding debts.

Cut any credit cards and close credit accounts to stop accumulating more debts. In only a matter of time, the consumer pays off any outstanding debts. In the meantime, the consumer sets a budget to pay off monthly obligations and debts. With Patience and discipline, the consumer repays all the debts.

Get low manageable interest rate credit card after achieving good credit rating. To pay off monthly charges promptly greatly increases credit rating and score. Thereby, the consumer gets the good credit rating again. Many credit card company charges annual fee. Any credit card holder can call up the credit card company to remove the annual fee. The credit card company still wants you business. So, the credit card company will gladly remove the annual fee to keep your business. If the debts start to get out of control, you go back to the first step. On continuous problem with this step, you skip this step from now on.

The average gestation period for a shih tzu is 58 to 65 days following conception. With a first pregnancy your shih tzu may not show signs until late in term. Just before her due date the abdominal muscles may suddenly appear to distend suddenly. Some shih tzu may produce colostrum and milk. She may suffer a loss of appetite or if just eaten, they may suddenly throw it back up. She may show extreme fatique, and have very deep periods of sleep. These are all signs that whelping is nigh.

If it takes an hour or longer between puppies once whelping begins she “might” be suffering from inertia. However, all matrons are different. I have puppies to have as long as 4 hours apart and nothing be wrong at all, and usually the same mother will go through this same process each time. But if you have a matron who does not usually take this long between puppies, and then she does, this could be cause for you to call your vet or take her to the vet. Some breeders will give their matron a glass of milk as a calcium source. My shih tzu usually won’t take anything like that during this time. If the matron stays in labor a long period of time, you may need to take her for a cesarean section. Most shih tzu, however, are free whelpers, even my little girls have whelped out their puppies on their own. There is always the exception to this rule, however, and you should be prepared to stay for the entire whelping with your matron to guard against the complications that may require the vet’s assistance. One trouble sign would be a steady straining by the matron. I have been very fortunate with my shih tzu, in that as of yet I have not experienced a lot of problems with their whelping times.

As whelping progresses, matrons will go through periods of intermittent labor and occasional minor contractions over several hours before intense contractions occur in rapid succession producing a puppy. Normally, she will visibly pant rapidly, may attempt to shred her bedding and will often shred newspapers if you give them to her, she will move restlessly and whine and will intermittently sleep deeply through the whelping. Once deliveries begin, puppies usually arrive anywhere from a few minutes to an hour apart, but again this is not always the rules with every matron. I have had shih tzu to take as long as 4 or 5 hours between puppies and still everything turn out alright. Some it looks as if they are not even having pain or pushing, and then suddenly a puppy will appear. The mother will immediately begin to tear open the sac around head and face and proceed to take the whelp out of the sac. If you notice mother not doing this, you will need to work quickly and tear the sac off the face and eyes so the puppy can get air. Mother will usually continue to clean up her whelp and chew and tie the cord. Many people think they need to take over at this point, but I feel mother is more capable by nature and instinct and should be allowed to chew the cord and tie it off without my help. Mother does this in a way to stop the bleeding. I have had a few that I have had to take over, but normally, if mother is doing as she ought to do, she will do this much better than I can and I drather let mother do as she knows best at this point.

The console-based Oralux Linux distribution ships with three screen-reading environments: Emacspeak, Yasr and Speakup. Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible.

This interpretation is then represented to the user with text-to-speech, sound icons, or a braille output.

Comming year Anthony Loeff medical volunteer is reporting software applications for people who are blind The latter developed in part by Knopper who has a visual impairment. There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows.

Therefore, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application. Indeed functionality remains limited compared to equivalent desktop applications, the major benefit is to increase the accessibility of said websites. While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. Approximately 12 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. The Macintosh OS also comes with a built-in screen reader, called VoiceOver. The open source GNOME desktop environment long included Gnopernicus and now includes Orca. Web browsers, word processors, icons and windows and email programs are just some of the applications used successfully by screen reader users. Screen readers are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled, often in combination with other AT such as screen magnifiers. Access technology such as screen readers and Screen magnifiers enable the blind to use mainstream computer applications. Most legally blind people 70 percent do not use computers. Linux distributions for the blind include Oralux and Adriane Knoppix. Screen reader choice is contentious: differing priorities and strong preferences are common. The movement towards greater web accessibility is opening a far wider number of websites to adaptive technology, making the web a more inviting place for visually impaired surfers. Only a small fraction of this population, when compared to the sighted community, have Internet access.

More and more, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions. Experimental approaches in sensory substitution are beginning to provide access to arbitrary live views from a camera.

The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers. Recent versions of Microsoft Windows come with the rather basic Narrator. Later versions of Microsoft Windows include an Accessibility Wizard and Magnifier for those with partial vision, and Microsoft Narrator, a simple screen reader. A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.

A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen.

Success demands that you believe you will achieve it. If you don’t believe you can do it - whatever “IT’ is - you’re doomed to fail. History is replete with examples where people’s unbelief resulted in failure. Big time failure.

Let me give you just one example from one of my favorite stories in the Bible that you have probably read or heard about yourself.

The Israeli people had been living in bondage for over 400 years in Egypt. They were forced to live in a foreign land. They were forced to work at hard labor. They were forced to do without even the basic comforts of home. They were forced to do without those things that you and I would take for granted.

The Land of NOT ENOUGH.

Egypt signified the land of not enough. For 400 years, they had just enough to get by every day. Every day was a carbon copy of the day before. But deep down, they knew there had to be more to life. Like them, maybe you’re just getting by. Maybe you’ve been getting by for so long that you no longer think it can ever get any better.

The Land of MORE THAN ENOUGH.

But the Israelis prayed to their God for what we all want. They were sick and tired of living in the land of just enough. Like you, they wanted a better life. In due time, God did what He always does. He answered their prayers. In fact, although they didn’t know it at the time, the long wait for their prayers to be answered was worth it. God promised to give them a choice piece of real estate. God promised them safe passage to, and possession of, the “Promised Land.” In the Promised Land, they would never lack for anything again. In fact, God described it as the land flowing with milk and honey. The Promised Land truly represented the land of more than enough.

I suppose all of us have a reluctance to believe. We say we want evidence, but even when we get evidence, we remain skeptical. That was the case with the Israelis, and it is also the case with us. Think about it. God himself told them they could have the land! Yet they took it upon themselves to put a question mark where God had placed an exclamation point.

They had been living in bondage for 400 years. They were living hopeless lives of quiet desperation. They had accepted their lot in life. They didn’t question. They just did the same thing they were told to do day after day. Sameness was their security. They didn’t realize they were capable of much, much more.

Not surprising, taking over the “Promised Land” sounded too good to be true. So the Israelis asked their leader, Moses, to send 12 of their own folks to go spy on the inhabitants of the “Promised Land” to make sure they could really take it over.

Well, sure enough, 10 of the 12 spies returned from the Promised Land with a negative report. They were consumed with the fear of unbelief. They didn’t measure up to the inhabitants of the land. They considered themselves mere grasshoppers compared to the “giants” that occupied the land. Their fear was all-consuming. Their fear was contagious. It spread to everyone in the camp. Because of their unbelief, God told them would never possess the “Promised Land.”

But wait a minute. What about the other two spies? What did they think about occupying the “Promised Land?” Not surprisingly, they were ready to invade the land and take it over. Why? Did these two men have a better plan? Were they more intelligent than the other 10 spies?

No.

In a word, they simply believed. They had an unshakable belief that they could take the “Promised Land.” But they were in the minority so the majority prevailed. The entire camp made a bad choice and turned their backs on the chance of a lifetime. Because of their unbelief, they forfeited the opportunity to live in the land of milk and honey given to them by God himself.

The Land of JUST ENOUGH.

So what were the consequences of not taking over the “Promised Land”? God did not allow them to enter the “Promised Land.” Instead, they were relegated to wandering in the wilderness. Day after day they wandered in the desert. Sure, God took care of them. He provided them daily ‘manna.’ They had just enough to survive that day. The next day, they got more of the same to survive. They wandered for 40 years. For 40 years, the desert represented the land of just enough.

God’s plan was for them to leave the land of not enough and go directly to the land of more than enough. God never intended for them to wander for 40 years in the land of just enough. God’s desire was for them is the same desire He has for you and me - to live in the land of more than enough - the “Promised Land.”

But they didn’t believe.

Don’t make the same mistake yourself.

You graduated from high school. Maybe college. You got your first job where you probably made just enough for you and your family to get by. But you want a better life for you and your family. So you wander around from job to job certain your next job will pay you enough to get you to the land of more than enough. But perhaps, like the Israelis, you’re just going around in circles. You will continue to wander in the desert of your life for 40 years. Then retire broke.

Or you can decide to believe you can do it - whatever “IT” is - and proceed directly from the land of JUST ENOUGH to the land of MORE THAN ENOUGH.

It’s your choice.

What you believe is what you get.

There is so much going on in the world around us that it is easy for us to become distracted from keeping our focus on Christ and spiritual things. And our vision slips away from us when we turn to glance at the things of the world.

If you have ever read the first of C. S. Lewis SCREWTAPE LETTERS, you will recall that it pictures an atheist man sitting in a library. He had never thought of God until now. Somehow, as he sat there reading and contemplating and reflecting, his thoughts begin to bend toward God. Satan who writes this little letter senses the warning lights flashing. After all, he has kept the man an atheist for 22 years already and he is not about to let him go now. How should he intervene? How should he derail the man’s dangerous thoughts?

After careful consideration, Satan decides to distract the man from his thoughts. He whispers to him, “aren’t you hungry? Don’t you think you could sort it all out better after lunch? Satan encourages the man to go out into the street and look for a restaurant. Out in the street are many sounds that distract the man and the sense of God’s presence is gone. The vision loses its power and the man muddles on in his atheistic mire.

The truth of this little story comes home to us, doesn’t it? Every man has his weak points in the fortress of his nature and character and no man is more susceptible to the tricks of Satan than when he is at his weakest point. Scripture advises us; “Let him who thinks he stands beware, lest he fall.” Satan knows our weakness infinitely better than we do. And it is through our weaknesses that he makes his assaults.

The Evil One distracts us from the path of righteousness; the narrow road leading to eternal life with our Father. It is fatal distractions. We get distracted by the lights and glimmer and attractions. We get twisted by the tedium and the day-to-day demands. We lose sight of the vision of Christ in our lives and risk losing our very souls which of course, is Satan’s greatest desire.

But James tells us to “resist the devil and he will flee.” Paul said, “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s scheme.” Any place in our nature that is unguarded is a feasting ground for Satan and all who has turned their focus from Christ is unsafe.
